Invasive woody shrubs choking out the young successional forest.
 |
Amur Honeysuckle bushes and other invasive plants were halting forest regeneration at Marott Park. The restoration project consisted of intensive biomass removal coupled with the management of woody invasive plants. The area was comprised of a dense re-growth of native trees and shrubs intermingled with significant populations of invasive woody plants. All invasive species were cut and removed by hand. Thinning of some native trees was also preformed to open the canopy up for mast producing trees such as oak and walnut trees. Great care was taken to minimize damage to existing native vegetation while achieving effective control on a wide range of invasive woody plant species. Species controlled included Boxelder, Tree of Heaven, Bush Honeysuckle, Winged Euonymus, and Privet.
